Tips For Choosing Fire Safety Equipment

Tips For Choosing Fire Safety Equipment

Use these tips to choose the right fire safety equipment for your commercial facility.

In the event of a fire, it is always important to be safe and ready with the proper fire safety equipment. If you are properly equipped, then as worrisome as a fire is, you will know everything will be alright because you are prepared. However, you need to make sure you have the right fire safety equipment to handle the situation. In order to make sure you have the fire safety equipment that you need, follow these tips to make sure you are ready, just in case.

Fire Sprinklers

When a fire breaks out, one of the first fire safety equipment that responds to fight a fire is usually fire sprinklers built into the building. Although, that being said, different buildings need different fire sprinklers. For example, you might need pre-action fire sprinklers if you are worried about water damage as much as fire damage, so instead of water, it uses pressurized gases to put out the fire. Or, for commercial properties, a wet pipe fire sprinkler will be used because it always has water equipped and is ready to react quickly to a potential fire. Fire sprinklers are a necessary fire safety equipment to have, but you must make sure you choose the right one for your building.

Fire Extinguishers

Much like fire sprinklers, fire extinguishers are a form of fire safety equipment that comes in different forms whose needs vary from industry to industry. For example, an office building requires an ABC extinguisher. An ABC fire extinguisher is a type of fire safety equipment that is designed to handle the types of fires that are common to break out in an office, usually filled with a corrosive agent. However, in a hospital setting, the same corrosive agent present in the previously mentioned fire safety equipment would be problematic to use there. In this case, a water mist fire extinguisher is needed so that no damage is caused to any of the hospital equipment.

Smoke Alarms

Another type of fire safety equipment that you will need to choose properly is a smoke alarm. For the most part, smoke alarms come in two different forms. There are ionization smoke alarms that detect small particles in flaming fires, and photoelectric smoke alarms that are best for detecting larger particles from smoldering fires. So depending on what type of fire may breakout in your setting, will tell you the smoke alarm you need as your fire safety equipment.
