5 Fire Prevention Tips

5 Fire Prevention Tips

Follow these fire prevention tips!

Every year fires occurs because of human error or neglect. Making sure that we take measures to be especially careful around and about fire hazards will help keep up safer at work and at home. Add these five fire prevention tips for your list.

Smoke Detectors

Never underestimate the power and effectiveness of the smoke alarm. Having a sufficient number of smoke alarms installed in your home or office will immediately alert you of a fire danger. Many are sensitive enough to alarm at the presence of smoke. This will give you enough time to exit the building and, in some cases, enough time to address the smoke before it becomes a dangerous fire. Check the batteries and test the detector regularly to ensure that it is working and in good condition.

Exit Immediately

It’s always the best practice to err on the side of caution in a fire emergency. If you think a fire isn’t that big of an issue or can be contained quickly, you should still make sure that your family and guests exit your home or building quickly. Fires are often unpredictable. What starts small could grow rapidly. Therefore, have an escape plan prepared and practice it at least once a year. As soon as you hear an alarm, respond to it immediately. Teach children how and when to call 911 in emergencies.

Candles

If you live in a home with small children or where you store a lot of paperwork and other flammable materials, consider using flameless and smokeless candles. You’ll still get the same atmosphere and even smells from a real candle, but without the risk of starting a fire.

Maintenance and Habits

Remember to do regular maintenance on the various elements of your fire safety equipment. Check the batteries of your smoke detectors and unplug all appliances when you aren’t using them. Also, install and test a carbon monoxide detector and store hazardous materials away from children.

Outdoor Lighting

In case of an emergency, make sure that emergency personnel can easily find your home or building. Use LED lights to illuminate your address or home throughout the year.
